The students of Grahamstown came out in full force to celebrate the first of a series of Billabong Pro J-Bay 2011 pre-party activations.
The eternal student party capital venue: The Rat and Parrot hosted the throbbing mass of humans and considering many had just completed mid year exams coupled a national public holiday the following day, it was only inevitable that a serious jol was about to ensue.
The reason for this impromptu mid-week party was simply to highlight the upcoming Billabong Pro J-Bay, stop no 4 on the ASP Surfing World Tour, taking place from the 14th - 24th July.
Furthermore, Billabong used the occasion to highlight the staging of the Billabong Pro Music Festival that will run concurrently with the world class surfing event. Set for three days' of musical mayhem, the Billabong Pro Music festival will showcase some of South Africa's best underground talent for three consecutive days from 15th-17th July, at the Jolly Dolphin in J-Bay.
One of the bands scheduled in the official lineup is top PE-based band, Don't Panic, and it was no coincidence that they were on hand to rock the heaving crowd into a chaotic screaming frenzy.
The generous peeps at Black Label, one of the official Billabong Pro J-Bay sponsors, kept the pallets wet with a continous flow of Black Lable draft.
Needless to say, when the police eventually came to shut down the party, nobody was ready to go home.
The next stop for the Billabong Pro Pre-Party roadshow will be at Amsterdam, in Durban on the 23rd June with surf city's finest; the City Bowl Mizers set to rock the show.
See you all there....it it's anything like the show the crazy peeps at Grahamstown put on; you don't really want to miss it.
