You will never be forgotten Andy. We love you. Our thoughts are with your family.

Official Statement: HONOLULU - (November 2, 2010) -- The world of surfing mourns an incredibly sad loss today with the news that Hawaii's Andy Irons has died. Andy was a beloved husband, and a true champion. Irons, 32,withdrew from a professional surfing event in Puerto Rico last weekend due to illness and passed away during a layover en-route to his home in Kauai, Hawaii. He had reportedly been battling with dengue fever, a viral disease. At this time the family thanks his friends and fans for their support, and asks that the community respect its privacy. The family also asks to not be contacted so their focus can remain on one another during this time of profound loss.

It is with deep sadness that Billabong has learned of the news of Andy Irons’ passing. Andy was one of the greatest surfers of our time. More than that, he was a much loved son, a devoted husband and a soon-to-be father. The thoughts of all Billabong employees worldwide are with wife Lyndie and Andy’s family at this most devastating time.

Andy,

I just want to take a moment to say thank you for your contribution to the sport of surfing and your legacy will live on forever! It's tragic that you were taken so early in life, but god has bigger plans for you and the impact you made around the world in such a short period of time and the lives you've touched will forever be grateful! Your truly one of a kind and I'm sure your surfing mountains up above! My heart goes out to your family and they are in my thoughts and prayers.

One of the first alerts of this terrible tragedy that I read was by Billabong.

Dengue Fever, hospitals and IV drips....

Turns out, there were no hospitals. IV drips?

Why is a clothing company "managing" a death?

Yeah we still are thinking over the lose and praying for the grieving and of what it is all about: I only shared a picnic table with him for a few minutes at pine trees and the love of surfing. I loved watching clips of him surfing. so... For what is your life: It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away....For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lor

Rest in peace A.I. My blessing goes out to your wife and family. May the Hawai'i
Gods accept and embrace him with open arms. You WILL always be on our MINDS and FOREVER in our HEARTS. We will only wait until the newest Irons, a beatiful baby girl, or a kekoa of a son will be ripping it up like their Daddy did. God Bless, Mahalo.

Truly a sad day for the Irons Family. My sincerest condolences to Lyndie, Bruce and his family. May this time of sadness not keep us from knowing the Author of Life. Christ is the only way to heaven and to the Father. Reach out to Him, and He WILL reach out to you, even now. May He bless you all.

Rest in Peace, Andy Irons. Too young to lose such an awesome surfer, soon to be dad, and from what I hear a really nice guy! Guess your surfin' the celestial big waves now!!
By the way, it should not matter how someone dies when honoring their life. We all have our demons and challenges in life. He even acknowledges that in the video clip above. May he be working out those demons in those big waves in the sky now!!!
