The 2014/2015 Big Wave World Tour got off to an early start with beautiful 30 - 40 foot waves at the Billabong Pico Alto. Local chargers and fans came out by the hundreds to cheer on the chargers and the show only got better as the day got longer.
After becoming a father only two days before he got the call for Pico Alto, Makua Rothman was on fire in Peru. From his first heat, through to the final the Hawaiian found the biggest waves of the heat and caught them deep and steep. The BWWT is a brotherhood and it was obvious that everyone was happy for Makua.
The Finalists: Gabriel Villaran, Shawn Dollar, Anthony Taschnick, Makua Rothman, Grant Baker and Greg Long.
One of Makua's many beasts.
Greg Long was patient and efficient with his rides, only catching the sets and riding them all the way through.
The aftermath of a sweeper set at Pico Alto.
Shawn Dollar didn't back down from Pico Alto's big green faces, in fact he looked right at home.
2013 BWWT Champion Grant Baker caught the biggest wave of the day in the Final but couldn't find another wave to back it up.
Yup, it was that good.
