On August 27, 2011, the Billabong Pro Men's World Tour event was placed on hold as a massive swell bore down on Tahiti's infamous and revered "Teahupo'o". With forecasts calling for unprecedented conditions, a collection of global, die-hard big-wave enthusiasts descended on the small tropical island to intercept the giant swell despite a prohibitive "Code Red" called by the Tahitian Coast Guard which sought to keep everyone safe on shore.
The historic session is recalled via two surfers who dominated that day -- Aussie veteran Dylan Longbottom and his young tow partner, Laurie Towner.
"Code Red" features captivating footage captured with the super-slow motion Phantom Camera.
