PEVI PERMANA
Full Name: Pevi Permana
Sponsors: Billabong, Vonzipper, Nixon
Years Skating: 7 years
Stance: Goofy
Favorite spot to skate? Base, 18th park Buqiet Skatepark and just anywhere I can skate.
Person you respect most? Indra Gatot.
What is the craziest thing you have ever seen? When I went to USA and I saw Tony Hawk chased by hundreds and hundreds of people who wants his autograph and take pictures with him. Skaters in Indo haven’t reached that kind of level yet, so watching that is petty insane for me.
What you would do if you weren't a skater? Probably recording and going on tour with my band, Insulin Coma.
Any pet? Monkey.
Which word phrases do you most overuse? Alhamdulilah, hehehe.
What's on your iPod right now? I have all kinds of music on my iPod. I often listen to ACDC, Motley Crue, Rosemary, Insulin Coma , and blues music.
What is your biggest fear? Just my God.
Tell me the best thing about Indonesia? Indonesia has good people, good islands and goooooood everything. You guys are out there you should come to Indonesia before you die. Especially BALI island.
Your greatest extravagance? My house.
Have you ever tried to surf? How was it? Yeah I tried it for fun. It was okay, still like skateboarding better hahaha.
When was the last time you feel proud of yourself? When I won a medal and be respectful to the flag of my country. And I still can't believe I can go to the USA for the join competition pro class.
FLASHBACK
I started skating with my school friends, when I was 15. It started out just for fun, but I became more and more curious about skate tricks and begin to learn them. I got hold of a few then I tried out in a competition. I lose of course, plus I broke my arm. My parents got really mad, took my skateboard and forbade me from skating. It got me down for a while. But after my arm healed I would sneak out to skateparks in Bandung, hangout with the skate communities there and practiced skating without them knowing. This went on for about a year.
I began to compete in contests held in nearby cities and started to constantly winning. My friend Indra Gatot offered me to get sponsored, and I was taken aback because I didn’t think I would get a sponsor that big. I began to ride more seriously and took the national title from 2006-2009.
SKATING IS MY LIFE
Seriously it has been everything for me. I came from lower to middle class family and with skating I am now able to support myself, my family and those who are close to me. I got to make them proud and even contribute to my country by representing it in international skate competitions.
