With 40 years of heritage and product sensibilities in the bag, Billabong boardshorts are always worth talking about. Here are 3 series to look out for!
THE ALL DAY SERIES
To start, the All Day Series aim to provide everyday comfort to its wearer. High on contribution is its over-the-knee length of 21 – 22 inches, which ensure free, uninhibited range of movement for its wearer anytime, anywhere.
For the uninitiated, boardshorts that typically sport longer leg lengths are made to protect surf and wake athletes from not just abrasions on the knee, but to also ensure that your man fur is not ripped out by accident (think sticky layer of surf wax!) – which is precisely the reason why 2012 ASP World Champion, and Billabong Surf Athlete, Joel Parkinson, swears by his pair of Transverse boardshorts; a lightweight, H2 Repel, 4-way stretch boardshorts featuring engineered gradient plaid, ergonomic panels for superior/epic stretch and screen print details.
THE PERFORMANCE X SERIES
In the spirit of cementing an identity that goes back to the brand’s roots, the PX Series – which comprises of PX1, PX2 and PX3 – is Billabong’s highest and most talked about performance boardshorts. With a knee length option of 19 - 21 inches, boardies from the PX1 and PX2 range are made out of Feather Weight, Contour Seam Technology and 120% Quad X four-way stretch material, which makes it extremely ergonomic. And to ensure absolute comfort to its wearer, all boardshorts from this series comes equipped with a special H2 Repel coat, which eliminates water absorption, a key component to preventing boardshort rash. Beyond the technical aspects that have shaped the series, this season’s trend-inspired colours and prints are also seen translated onto our boardies – such as the brand’s first ever camo print boardshorts.
But Billabong’s not stopping there, as an environmental aspect finds itself punctuating the series further. Seeking to give plastic bottles a new lease on life, every PX1 and PX2 product is also made out of approximately 25 PET bottles. A clever technique that has been recognised by SIMA (Surf Industry Manufacturers Association) as “Environmental Product of The Year” for three consecutive years, to date, an excess of 50 million plastic bottles have been recycled into fabric for boardshorts.
Bottles = Boardshorts. Pretty neat, huh!
THE SHORT LEG SERIES
Proffering that throwback style with a touch of modern day panache is the Short Leg Series! Dished out in excellent style vision, count on these above-the-knee (17 – 19 inches) boardies to be the perfect companion to your lazy beach days or quick Summer shred. And in going one step further to add on to that bit of retro goodness, you can be sure that these babies don’t skimp on aesthetics either. Besides finding variety in design, worked into selected boardies are vintage fades for that added touch of subtle cool.
The Muted Sublimated boardshorts’ a fine example of what we’re talking about! An all-time favourite of surfer, Jack Freestone, this Platinum X Quad Stretch boardshorts feature sublimated fabric and contrast stripe break up, leg screen prints, pocket screen prints and a striped waistband. Cut-and-Sew techniques have also been introduced to the piece to give it that extra edge.
A true rebirth of the beach shorts. A quintessential classic. #lifesbetterinboardshorts
