The whole Billabong family got down and dirty over the weekend doing beach cleanup at Jerman Beach, Tuban with the help of GUS (Gelombang Udara Segar) and some of the local people. Together they collected a large variety of plastic waste, broken glass and other trash left by visitors, locals or washed ashore by the tides.
"Jerman Beach is one of the best surfing spots in Bali, as you can see there are lots of boats here to take people surfing," stated Made Basur, Operational Manager of PT Billabong Indonesia. "But it's just not as lively as it could potentially be, because all the trash on the beach is not pleasant to look at. This beach clean up is our first step to do something about that."
Billabong collaborated with GUS to add more rubbish bins on the beach, and to make a more permanent composting site. They also added signs to remind people to throw the trash in the bin.
"It's important that everybody understand how to process trash properly," added Made Basur. "We can cleanup this beach all day but if people keep throwing trash recklessly then it's going to be dirty again tomorrow. Socializing information is important and that's what we are trying to do."
Everyone enjoyed the beach for the rest of the day and hoping we did some work that will benefit our beloved beaches.
