Words don’t justify how mental the Billabong Air + Style in Innsbruck was on Saturday night.
A sellout crowd of 15,000 screaming fans packed the Bergisel Stadium to see the worlds best Snowboarders hit the biggest Quarter Pipe on the planet.
Beamed direct live to 7 television networks in Europe, webcast globally to millions of hungry web geeks and witnessed first hand by the who’s who of world Snowboarding, the Billabong Air + Style was simply amazing.
American Kevin Pearce added some more jewelry to the collection by claiming the overall title, donning the minted Air + Style ring for the second time in two months. A monster 7m BS 5 Alley-oop in the eight man final stitched it for the young buck.
Billabong’s own Scotty Lago (USA) took second with a huge FS 7 Alley-oop and Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) rounded out the Top 3 with a massive BS 5.
Jack Mitrani went dangerously close to smashing the world height record held by snowboarding great Terje Haakonsen with a giant 10.2m roost but caught the coping on re-entry and got completely buckled.
The VIP tents bulged, the chilled Austrian beer flowed free and the champagne spewed onto the snow from the prize ceremony, just in time for QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE to blast some signature rock into the cold night sky.
